Freedom, Reflection, and Our Commitment to Inclusion at Hatteras Insurance

At Hatteras Insurance, today is more than a date on the calendar. Juneteenth is a day of deep significance—one that marks the final enforcement of the end of slavery in the United States and celebrates the freedom, resilience, and rich cultural legacy of Black Americans.

A Brief History

On June 19, 1865, Union troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, and announced that all enslaved people were free—over two years after the Emancipation Proclamation had been signed. This moment, now known as Juneteenth, represents the delayed but vital promise of liberty finally being delivered.

While the historical context of Juneteenth is rooted in the past, the meaning and relevance of the day remain profoundly present. It serves as a call to honor the struggle for freedom and to continue the work of building a more just, inclusive, and equitable society.

Our Values at Hatteras Insurance

At Hatteras, we believe that equity, diversity, and inclusion are not optional—they are essential to who we are. We are proud to partner with InsurEquality, an organization committed to promoting fairness, representation, and equal opportunity in the insurance industry. This partnership reflects our belief that everyone—no matter their background, race, gender, or identity—deserves to be seen, heard, and empowered.

Juneteenth reminds us of why that work matters.

We strive every day to create a culture where our team, our clients, and our community feel truly valued. Celebrating Juneteenth means celebrating the people, voices, and stories that have shaped our nation—and continue to shape our industry for the better.

How We Celebrate

Today, we honor Juneteenth by:

  • Taking time to reflect on the history and significance of Black freedom in America.

  • Amplifying diverse voices within our community and industry.

  • Supporting inclusive practices in how we serve, hire, and lead.

  • Continuing to learn and grow in our journey toward justice and equality.

We are proud to stand with those who continue to push for change, and we’re committed to being part of that change—today and every day.

Happy Juneteenth from all of us at Hatteras Insurance!
